Changes in English level requirement in Australia

 


New Requirements as per update:
Student visas:
- The minimum English proficiency test score has been raised from IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 (or equivalent).
- The minimum score for undertaking an ELICOS course has been increased from IELTS 4.5 to 5.0 (or equivalent).
- Students enrolled in recognized university foundation or pathway programs that include reputable English language training must achieve a score of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent), with a list of recognized courses available on the Department's website.
Temporary Graduate visas:
- The minimum required score has been raised from IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 (or equivalent), with a minimum of 5.5 for each component of the test.
- Holders of passports from Hong Kong and British National Overseas (BNO) are exempt from this increase and must maintain a score of IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent), with a minimum of 5.0 for each test component.
- The validity period for English language tests for Temporary Graduate visa applications has been reduced from three years to one year. Applicants must submit evidence of completing an English language test within one year prior to the visa application date.
